Stone Animal Sculptures: Elephants, Turtles, Horses & More — Sourcing Guide
Why Stone Animals Are a Garden Staple
Stone animal sculptures are among the most-ordered garden pieces worldwide — they bring character to entrances, courtyards, parks and estates, and unlike metal or resin they never fade, crack or blow away. Quyang carvers produce every animal imaginable in marble and granite, from life-size elephants to palm-sized rabbits. Because each piece is carved, not cast, the price scales with size and detail rather than mold tooling.
The Animals Buyers Order Most
A few animals dominate export orders, each with its own meaning:
- Elephants — strength, wisdom and good luck; popular at hotel entrances and luxury homes, trunk-up or trunk-down
- Turtles — longevity and stability; classic garden and fountain companion pieces
- Horses — energy and success; striking statement pieces for parks, ranches and corporate grounds
- Oxen & bulls — prosperity and hard work; often ordered in pairs for entrances
- Rabbits, foxes, deer and birds — charming detail pieces for private gardens
- Dragons & mythical beasts — heritage pieces; see our guide on kylin and guardian animals for the traditional range
Size, Material & Finish Decisions
Small pieces (20-60cm) suit patios and shelves; 60-120cm pieces anchor garden beds and entrances; 1.5m+ life-size animals become the focal point of a landscape. White marble is elegant but porous outdoors; granite — gray, black or red — is the workhorse for exterior animals that must survive frost and rain. For carved detail like fur texture or scales, honed granite holds its edge better than high-gloss polish, which suits smooth, modern forms.
Pricing & Weight Reality
Prices depend on material, size and carving density: a 50cm marble rabbit might cost a few hundred dollars, while a life-size 1.8m granite elephant runs several thousand and weighs 3-5 tonnes. Weight drives freight — a 20ft container carries roughly 8-12 tonnes of animal sculptures. When comparing quotes, compare the same material, size and finish, and confirm whether the base is included.
Custom Animals From Photos or Drawings
If you need a specific breed, pose or style — a rearing horse, a baby elephant, a heraldic creature from your logo — Quyang carvers reproduce from photos, sketches or 3D models. An approval drawing is provided before carving begins, and the sample or drawing becomes the benchmark for the bulk order. Custom pieces add little tooling cost because nothing is molded.
Packing, QC & Documentation
Animals ship in reinforced wooden crates with foam and straw padding; ears, trunks and tails are the fragile points, so delicate parts are packed separately or bolted on site. Before shipment check: surface finish uniformity, no quarry cracks, dimension match to the approval drawing, and stable bases. Standard export documents — commercial invoice, packing list, Certificate of Origin — apply, with FOB Tianjin sea freight or door-to-door DDP available.
