Marble vs Resin Statues: Which Should You Import?

The Two Products Are Worlds Apart

Marble statues are carved from solid natural stone; resin statues are cast from synthetic polymer, often painted to imitate marble. They look similar in a photo but behave completely differently — in weight, durability, price and resale value. Knowing the difference is the single most important factor when buying garden or decorative statues, especially online.

Cost: Resin Is Cheap for a Reason

Resin pieces are dramatically cheaper — often a fraction of the price of solid marble at the same size. Molds make mass production fast and consistent. But you get what you pay for: resin is a painted polymer that chips, fades in sunlight and can crack in cold weather. Marble costs more because the material itself, the carving labor and the shipping weight are all real.

Weight & Feel: The Test That Never Lies

Solid marble is heavy — a 60cm statue easily weighs 40–80 kg; resin of the same size weighs a few kilograms and feels hollow. If a 'marble' statue seems oddly light, it isn't solid stone. Genuine marble also feels cool to the touch and shows natural veining and slight color variation; resin is warm, uniform and painted.

Durability & Weathering

Marble (and granite even more so) endures sun, rain and frost for centuries and can be re-polished. Resin degrades: UV light fades the paint, temperature swings cause cracking, and thin areas chip easily. For permanent outdoor placement — gardens, courtyards, hotel entrances — solid stone is the lasting investment; resin is really an indoor decorative product.

How to Tell Real Marble When Importing

Ask for weight and dimensions, request photos of the actual piece (not catalog shots), and confirm the material in writing on the invoice and packing list. Check for natural veining and cool temperature. Be wary of prices far below the stone market — a 'marble' lion priced like a plastic toy is almost certainly resin or fiberglass. A reputable Quyang supplier carves only solid stone and will state it plainly.

Which Should You Buy?

Choose solid marble when the piece matters — gifts, heirlooms, commercial display, outdoor gardens, or anything meant to last. Choose resin only for cheap indoor decoration where weight and budget dominate. When in doubt, buy from a stone specialist: solid marble from Quyang at factory-direct pricing is more affordable than most buyers expect.
